Do we really want public transportation?
Imagine if you could afford a decent car. Not a banged up Volkswagen Golf 1.0 from the late 80’s. But more like a Volkswagen Passat from the 21th century or Ford Mondeo. Would you then spend several hours in an oversized 80’s car with poor air condition? If you would you are probably a socialist and are not deemed worthy to read more of this blog entry. For the rest of you, of course you wouldn’t. That is why I raise the question, “Do we really want public transportation?” If we could avoid it I think the majority of the population would prefere using their own means of transportation. Not only is it faster and more likely more comfortable. Of course you need to drive it yourself unless you are filthy rich and have employed some cheap mexican as your driver or a monkey as Krusty the Clown has. But you still have a piece of your home with you. It is your personal space. You may fart loudly, sing a long with poorly written 80’s music, or whatever awkward situation you might do inside a moving metal box with windows (Yes we can all see you.) I know all that talk about public transportation being better for the environment but seriously if we could get “clean” cars I still think that public transportation is something you use out of necessity and not out of joy. Of course it would clear up some space on the highways but then I like the idea about having your car or personal cabine transported on huge rails on the highways to have an automated system. Instead of sharing odours with complete strangers.
Anti social? Perhaps?
If you had the choice would you use public transportation?
