Should we trust the Police?

I take it as common sense to trust the decisions of the Police. It might also be because I live in Denmark. A peaceful oasis in Europe where no harm is ever done or that I think that the times that the Police have been forced to use force they have been right, in my opinion.

I could imagine in a country like Iran or other totalitarian states you may not much trust in your local police force. They might be corrupt and down-right evil, eating babies and raping pinetrees.

But in the western world or atleast in Europe since I have heard that in America the police does love to eat babies too, should we not trust our Police in general?

Should we not trust that our government which have been elected by our parlament are capable of running our countries and our police force.

If not, lets join the anarchists and shout profanities at your local police officers!

Down with the system!

I was going to try keep it simple and answer “NO!” But I realise, after some thought, that it’s a much broader question than it seems at first. As you mention, it all boils down to how much you can trust your government. I don’t think that any sane person could say with any sort of real conviction, that they believe they can place any substantial amount of trust in their politicians when they are part of a very, very flawed system, as every current political system on the planet is. As such, how can any police force be possibly trusted when the vast majority of laws are in place, not for the good of the people, but for some other reason, usually misunderstood by the general populace? I will never trust anyone who has any form of “authority” that they have not earned. That’s a summary of how I feel at least. Like all your questions lately, it’s not so easy to answer and requires a lot of thought. You cheeky, clever bastard. ;)
