Do we really want public transportation?
Imagine if you could afford a decent car. Not a banged up Volkswagen Golf 1.0 from the late 80’s. But more like a Volkswagen Passat from the 21th century or Ford Mondeo. Would you then spend several hours in an oversized 80’s car with poor air condition? If you would you are probably a socialist and are not deemed worthy to read more of this blog entry. For the rest of you, of course you wouldn’t. That is why I raise the question, “Do we really want public transportation?” If we could avoid it I think the majority of the population would prefere using their own means of transportation. Not only is it faster and more likely more comfortable. Of course you need to drive it yourself unless you are filthy rich and have employed some cheap mexican as your driver or a monkey as Krusty the Clown has. But you still have a piece of your home with you. It is your personal space. You may fart loudly, sing a long with poorly written 80’s music, or whatever awkward situation you might do inside a moving metal box with windows (Yes we can all see you.) I know all that talk about public transportation being better for the environment but seriously if we could get “clean” cars I still think that public transportation is something you use out of necessity and not out of joy. Of course it would clear up some space on the highways but then I like the idea about having your car or personal cabine transported on huge rails on the highways to have an automated system. Instead of sharing odours with complete strangers.
Anti social? Perhaps?
If you had the choice would you use public transportation?

Yes, we want public transport. Modern society won’t function without it. There are millions of people who use it every day. I mean, if everybody who travels with public transport had their own car, the streets would be overfilled, not to talk about the pollution! Even though we get better cars that pollute less, with the all-day-round rush-hour we’d get, being stuck in the traffic with the motors on would probably pollute just as much.
And if cars were transported on huge rails on the highway – what’s the difference between that and, for instance, trains?
And why should it always be so comfortable to travel? I use the bus almost every day back and forth to Uni… It’s very effective. And I don’t have a drivers license. And if I had, it’d probably take me longer to get to Uni, because I’d be stuck in the traffic, while the Bus drives right past it.
And I think I can hold my farts while I’m on the bus, no problem. I don’t really socialise there either, so being in a car wouldn’t make me less social.
I guess I’d prefer driving my own car over long distances, for example if I’d be going to Oslo. That’s a six-seven hours drive, and even longer with the bus. But as long as I’m a student and live in a city, I’ll go with the bus.
And why on earth wouldn’t socialists be deemed worthy of reading the blog? Becuase they’d might not agree?
Public transportation also limits where a person is able to go. In a car, you’re free to get right next to your destination, whereas with public transportation you have to go miles away from your destination.
